In 2010, Gosford Public School was successfully nominated as a Lighthouse school. We are proud to announce that we are one of six Lighthouse schools in the Hunter Central Coast Region.
What is a Lighthouse School?
The Best Start Lighthouse project celebrates and connects schools that are making significant and sustained progress in student achievement in the early years of schooling.
In Kindergarten at Gosford Public School this means:
- Teachers use research-based strategies during uninterrupted learning time for Literacy instruction
- Teachers possess a clear focus on student learning and performance
- Teachers work collaboratively to plan effective Literacy sessions, discuss student results, and apply consistent teacher judgment to support and guide future teaching and learning
What does a Literacy session involve?
- Providing a balanced Literacy program for all students
- Explicit and systematic daily instruction in Reading, Writing, Talking & Listening
- Effectively using the key strategies of modelled, guided and independent teaching to ensure the level of responsibility for learning moves from teacher to student
